Checked It?!?!?!?!

I recently decided that my work wardrobe needed a quick ‘update’ or ‘pick me up’ so decided to scroll through my favourite website ASOS to see what pieces I could add. During my search for some new threads I then came across another dilemma of patterns, & which one to go for….checked, striped of simply plain?!?!?! So in order to embrace all three I ordered one of each to see which one I liked the most. I also chose to spice it up a little by choosing two skirts and one pair of trousers.
The first one I tried on was a striped skirt:

I wasn’t sure about this one at first but when I tried it on, I loved it. The soft silky fabric felt nice against my skin, plus the loose and floaty feel to the design was comfortable with a sophisticated edge. Teamed up with a pair of red heels I felt good in it and rather enjoyed spinning about like I was in a music video…move over Kylie!!! NOT (Nothing can beat those gold shorts!!!) The other benefit is that this skirt can be teamed up with a variety of different coloured / style tops. On this occasion I chose a statement white jumper, a lil bit quirky but not enough to pull the attention entirely away from the skirt. For a different day if I could pick out the right blue and red both colors I think would potentially work well, or even a go to black body would look good. All in all I definitely felt like this could work well at work and maybe even teamed up with a sexy top / body could work as an evening outfit look.

The second choice was a plain blue skirt:
It was the high waist which appealed to me on this skirt. I must admit I don’t usually do high waits as I’m used to more hipster fitting styles. I find the tightness around my waist often feels very uncomfortable and restricted, but with this skirt I quite liked the way it was fitted at the waist and then went loose from the hips, it looked very flattering on the model. When I tried it on I must admit it fitted really well and felt comfortable. In fact it didn't feel restricted at all, I think this was also largely due to the great 7% elastane used in the fabric. I always love clothes with anything above 5%...it means a lot more give and also less ironing too!!

I decided to team it up with the same white jumper I had worn previously just to see which version I preferred. I felt that the contrast in colors was great and the structured flute on the jumper went well with the overall design of the skirt. Because I chose a plain top and skirt I then felt it was the perfect opportunity to bring some pattern into the look with some funky animal print footwear. These are possibly my favourite shoes, they are comfy, practical and honour my animal print love...all in all what is not to love about them!!

The third were a pair of checked trousers:
I wasn't too sure about these when I brought them as I think sometimes checked can look / appear a bit out of date, as with maybe any pattern can, I think It depends more on the style of the garment and how you wear it. However when I tried these on I was very surprised, they fitted well and felt comfortable, they had a rather relaxed but tailored fit and feel to them. I think these would be fantastic for work as they are not only fitted well, they are striking and bold, especially with a plain black top.

The top had to be plain to go with these trousers, but I couldn't help giving it a little twist with some laced sleeves, which I think compliments the kind of gothic type look.

To be honest I ended up loving all three outfits, they were all very different and complimentary in different ways. My favourite was definitely the striped skirt, closely followed by the checked trousers. However that's not to say that I did not like the plain blue skirt. I just felt for me it was a lil understated, although I think it's always good to have a variety of styles in the wardrobe 😉 L
