Flowers vs Fitted - Dress battle!

I was still searching for work ideas when I came across these two dresses, both of which caught my eye because they were so drastically different in style, structure and color.
Flower:
The floral dress literally jumped out just for the bright contrasting colors and vibrant design, plus the underlining notion that I knew I had a fabulous pair of red heels I could team it up with. This style dress is definitely not my usual ‘go to’, which is why I think I chose to try it. I don’t usually go for floral designs, or anything quite this floaty and light, but there was something about it that drew me to buy it.
When I tried it on, it felt how it looked - both comfy and loose which was great, especially for work I don’t really want to feel constricted or trapped inside a corset type dress when I’m sat at my desk or in a meeting for hours. The only downside I would say is that for me the arms were a little short, but I think that maybe just how I prefer my sleeve lengths to be rather than the design – the only way I can describe it is that I have a funny love of long sleeves: wrist flashing is a no no for me, a bit like ankle flashing. However the overall look I thought was really nice, very comfy and an eye-catching work alternative.

Looking at this dress, I feel that sometimes we need to reach past our comfort zones and experiment with the unusual and uncharted. I myself love experimenting with clothes (how else are you going to find out what suits you and your body type), I also think it helps awaken the senses. When it’s a dull day sometimes it’s nice to put on something loud and cheerful, other times it’s good to just go subtle and soft…

Structure:
The second more structured design was sold to me on the edgy cut and fit. I liked the elegance it gave the model as well as the bold structure of the peplum hem and button detail. The fact that is was understated but at the same time eye catching is something I often find myself going for. Obviously, it helps if you have a killer figure like the models that market these clothes, but I think if you love what you wear and feel comfortable and happy in yourself you can pull off anything you want. We all have our idea of what is socially acceptable, but Fashion is one of those things that is there to be tested, how else is it (or we) meant to evolve…….

The dress felt great on, it was fitted but not too constricting and I didn’t feel like it was too tight. The amount of elastane in the fabric meant there was a lot of give to it which made the dress feel even better on. It was also a great length, not short enough to be revealing but not too long enough to be frumpy. The added bonus of the side split made it feminine and classy, I may even say sexy!!

So at the end of this lil experiment although I loved the bright color and design of the floral dress, I think the structured design was my personal favorite. I liked the overall look of the dress and felt more confident in it. The fabric felt nice and wasn’t too clingy or see-through, just body-con enough. I suppose from this you can try and go out of your comfort zone, but sometimes we know our comfort zones because it what suits us. I’m glad I did try these styles though as you never do know – or as my mum would say, never say never as they say 😉 L
