Get Shorty!!!
So this time of year should be the time to get those little white pasty legs out we’ve been hiding over the winter months, be it with tights, jeans, leggings or maxi skirts, and soak in the glorious summer sunshine…. Or is it?!? Looking at the recent weather changes this past week has seen I’m not sure it’s even August right now!!
So I tend to spend my spring days / evenings (not all of them, I promise!) buying awesome shorts and rad skirts only to be ever disappointed by the British weather. It then comes to the summer and they seem to just sit in my drawers every day!!!
I've always been a fan of hipsters, maybe it's growing up in the 90's when Shakira would rock and shake her hips to the sounds of some serious beats - those hips definitely don't lie #girlcrush!!!! Or maybe it's just the comfort factor, they aren't tight on your stomach and I find them very flattering on the female curves, think also J-Lo and Christina Aguilera - sexy and confident!! Whatever the reason I've always tended to buy hipster styles.
So I purchased a pair of khaki coloured cargo shorts in the hope that I would at some point be able to wear them with a nice top…. the shorts I purchased were a little military green cargo shorts from H&M:
The next thought that came to me was what to wear them with….so this is where the experimenting began:
Shorty Combo I
Option No 1 was a little flowery number, delicate in pattern and subtle in colour - neither of my ‘go to’ options! However I must admit I thought that this little top was very cute and understated, a perfect summer addition. The fabric was lightweight and floaty which meant it would be cool in the summer sunshine. The only thing that disappointed me was the length of it, it was very short and almost cropped on me. Not entirely sure is this was the way it was supposed to look but it did on me. I would have preferred it to be a little longer in length - maybe just the next size up would have helped.

Combo No 2 was a patterned body from River Island, not the sort of style I'd go for but the pattern was different and a little retro so I decided to go crazy. I wasn't disappointed either. It fitted great and went well the khaki shorts, so I was impressed with this combination.
The amount of elastane was also good and another bonus was that the cut of the legs weren't too high. I've tried on a few bodies in the past and found that the legs have such a high cut leg that when teamed up with a pair of hipsters (like these!) you can then see a hip gap between the too. Now maybe if your Taylor Swift strutting your thing on stage that would work but for me it's not really the look I desired. Maybe that's why high-waisted jeans were brought into the world so you could wear the two together, although some of the bodies I've tried on come even higher than those! All in all I loved this look. It wasn't my usual style but I felt like they worked together.

Option No 3, to me was all about the vibrant colour and extra special diamante detail of the straps. It screamed BUY ME as soon as I saw it. I have to admit the impulsive purchase did not disappoint. The fit was great and not too short in the body either. I'm starting to feel River Island have a great sizing structure. It looked a little bit more fancy than the previous outfit and had more versatility in the fact that I could perhaps team it up with either sandals or heels depending on the occasion.

Maybe you've got a pair of funky shorts you'd like to share, or even a cool top that rules the roost for this kind of combo... If so feel free to share! L
