The phrase ‘Smart but Casual’ has such a broad spectrum of meaning to it, so much so it can include limitless outfits and combos which in turn could conform to this category. Often my mind will go into a whirlwind of ‘WTF am I going to wear to this’ kinda thought process, as you neither want to be too over dressed or indeed under dressed…. you need to find that middle ground. Easier said than done maybe…….

Todays choice of outfit was for one of my dearest friend’s little boys naming day. A really wonderful and fantastic occasion shared with friends and family which doesn’t come with quite the same conformity & perhaps strict guidelines of a Christening. You see I would always wear a dress & heels to a church, and I would think that for the boys / men a suit is expected/mandatory – although this is only my opinion & one I have just grown up with. However a naming ceremony is much less formal & therefore I feel like you can incorporate much more when choosing an outfit, almost think outside the box.

I would like to say that this time of year should be easy to dress for but being in the UK any season can be awkward to find an outfit for, and I think there are a few reasons for this. For one the weather doesn’t appear to know what it wants to do. One minute it could be snowing (not likely in July/August you'd think though!) and then two hours later, when your dressed up in your thermals / thick jumper dress or even your rad snowboarding attire it can be blazing sunshine (Not that I would wear those to a naming ceremony I might add!). It’s almost like you should take two or three outfits with you so you can make a quick ‘change’!!
Another reason is a lot of my dresses are either short sleeved, no sleeves, straps or even strapless and maybe that’s a reflection on my bad choice of dress purchasing, but I feel all the nicer dresses come with straps or short sleeves.

Having said all this I did manage to find this little number on www.asos.com by Unique 21, which I felt was ideal for this event. It wasn’t not too short, too flashy or too inappropriate, instead it was a little outside the box but still smart!! Teamed up again with my yellow Teddy & flowery pumps I thought at least I’ll be warm if it’s cold, cool if it’s hot and if all else fails at least no one will forget me being there!!

Obviously this kind of event wouldn't be complete without having your hubby on your arm dressed in a sleek jacket, classic white shirt and jean combo would it?! If nothing else I totally nailed that part..... Thanks Oliver.
