Working It…

I actually enjoy buying clothes for work as I always like to go for something smart but a little bit quirky and different. Not every day though, sometimes it’s nice to go for simple and effective!! Interviews, however, are slightly more difficult, you want to look smart and dress to be remembered but there’s a fine line…you want that remembrance to be in a good way, not bad!!

I tend to stay away from heels on the idea I am less prone trip and fall over, no one wants that awkward moment when entering or leaving an interview room!! Maybe it’s because I don’t tend to wear them that often (but love a killer pair when dressing up) I am not as confident as normal & let’s face it when going for an interview you want to gather up all the confidence you can muster!!

I am however partial to wearing something bright and colourful (I think this is getting to be a theme in my life!), but also comfortable - that is the key. You don’t want anything to tight, too loose, too fancy or even the fabric to be too flamboyant!! You don't need that extra worry after all. So sometimes simplicity is the best. I liked this green/black combo because it was a little of both, smart and simple but with a splash of 'funky' in the added lace insert. This was indeed another ASOS bargain and one I love!

Think ‘morning of the interview’ you’re already nervous for the actual event, maybe worrying about the answers to all those standard, but always tricky, questions you need to know that you have confidence in yourself and I sometimes think that your choice of outfit can raise and amplify that confidence.

My alternative/second look was teaming the same green top with a pair of monochrome trousers. I thought this was a little more funky than the skirt combo. I decided however that maybe wasn't so much an interview look but more of a 'first day or my new job / nailed it' outfit!! We can always be optimistic and plan ahead hey.....

At the end of the day, you have no idea how the interview is going to go or what questions will be fired at you until you get there, but one thing you can control is the confidence and how you feel in what you wear and how you look. Sometimes the confidence that magnifies from that can win you a second go & that is good enough….for now!!! L
